Frequently Asked Questions
Northstar Waldorf FAQ
Q: How will NSWA ensure the authenticity of Waldorf education in a public charter setting?
A: Our curriculum, staffing, and governance are all grounded in Waldorf principles. Our teachers will be Waldorf-trained, and our program will uphold the artistic, developmental, and nurturing elements that define true Waldorf education. We believe public Waldorf can—and must—be just as deeply rooted in Waldorf tradition as a private option.
Q: Will the school be tuition-free?
A: Yes. As a public charter school, NSWA will be entirely tuition-free and open to all.
Q: What will the weekly schedule look like?
A: We will have a full program with languages, hand work, gardening, movement/games, eurythmy, and more.
Q: Can public school teachers keep their retirement benefits if they join NSWA?
A: Yes. NSWA will participate in the 403(b) plan which is a retirement plan for public and charter schoolteachers and has elected to participate in CalSTRS, so any public-school teacher in the system will retain their retirement benefits when they join us.
Q: How will state testing impact the students’ experience?
A: NSWA teachers and leadership will strive to bring minimal disruption to the curriculum and experience of children as they meet California standards by administering CAASPP tests once per year starting in third grade.
Q: How can I help support the school now?
A: Join us on June 10th, spread the word to friends and neighbors, and stay connected through our website. We’ll be sharing more ways to support soon—including fundraising, outreach, and volunteer opportunities.
